Mr. Michael John Harrelson, age 61, of Gaylord, died peacefully at home with his family by his side on March 3, 2009. Michael was born March 11, 1947, to William and E. Jane (Honey) Harrelson.
Michael was born and raised in Kalamazoo. He attended the University of Michigan and received his Bachelor of Liberal Arts as well as a master?s degree in Guidance and Counseling.
He taught at the Willow Run area schools, and then went on to attend the University of Detroit Law School, receiving his Juris Doctorate. He worked a couple of years for the Friend of the Court in Saginaw, as well as for the law firm of Davidson, Breen & Doud, also in Saginaw. Michael also worked for the State of Michigan Accident Fund.
In 1970, he married Marjorie E. Scherer in Grosse Pointe.
The family moved to Gaylord in 1990. Michael worked at Bensinger, Cotant, and Menkes Law Firm for several years, and then formed the law firm of Byram, Harrelson, and Hass. Michael was a dedicated attorney who worked up until the week prior to his death. He was a member of the American Trial Lawyer?s Association and the Workers Compensation Society. He enjoyed his dogs, hunting, fishing, camping, golfing, grilling, attending U of M football games, and above all else, spending time with his family.
A MEMORIAL MASS will be held on Saturday, March 7, 2009 at 11 a.m. from St. Mary Cathedral, Father John McCracken officiating. A memorial gathering will take place on Friday, March 6th from 4-8 p.m. from the Nelson Funeral Home.
