| Notes |
- Raymond Gaubeen served in the Belgium Army during WWI. He received 3 medals for his service in the Army.
During World War I, Ghent Belgium was occupied by Germany, and had many Brothels. They had the Red Light district for the enlisted men, and the Blue Light district for the Officer's. The German Army set up inspection stations near the Red Light district, and all of the solder's were subject to "inspection" for venereal diseases. The officer's were considered to be role models, and were supposed to be responsible for there own health, but they were the ones that had the most venereal diseases. Most of the prostitutes were married women, some who had as many as 8 children. Most of them sold their "wares" for food to feed their families.
This information was provided from the History Channel's "Sex in World War I" program that was broadcast on 7/31/04.
