- John Victor Belanger was the father of John Louis Belanger and one of five children of Edward Belanger and Matilda O'Donnel. John was born in Michigan and his family soon moved to Wisconsin where they resided primarily in the city of Marinette throughout his younger years.John served in the U.S. Army in WWI. His draft registration card was completed on June 5, 1917 where he listed his address as 12-f South Main Street, Hartford, Wisconsin. At that time he worked as a "moulder" for the "Kissel Motor Car Co." in Hartford. He died in 1950 due to a gas leak while he and his son were napping in their home. John raised his son much by himself after his wife Lucille E. Desmarais fell victim to post-partum depression after giving birth to John Louis. By all accounts John Victor was highly respected and admired by virtually all who knew him for his service in the war and his sacrifices at home. His lineage can be traced back 30 generations to his great grandmother Isabella Romee De Voutron (1385 - 1458). Mrs. Voutron was the mother of Joan of Arc (1412 - 1431) who was burned at the stake for heresy and witchcraft and died in Rouen, France. Joan of Arc's given name was Jeanne Sybille D Arc and in 1920 she was canonized as a Saint in the Roman Catholic church.
