- The following death notice appeared in the Democrat Messenger, Waynesburg, Pennsylvania on December 29, 1931:
"Mrs. DeEtta Hunnell Elm, aged 30 years, wife of Edward Elm and a native of Greene County, died Wednesday, December 23, 1931, at her home in Detroit, Michigan. Her death came unexpectedly and resulted from a brief illness of pneumonia. Mrs. Elm was a daughter of John Hunnell, now deceased, and Mary Longstreth Hunnell, now residing in Detroit. She was born and spent most of her life in Greene county. She attended Waynesburg High school, and studied violin in the Waynesburg College School of Music, later serving as an instructor in this department. She had resided in Detroit for the past eight years. Besides her mother and husband she leaves three small children, Richard, Reed and John; one brother and two sisters, all of Detroit. The brother and sisters are Rindfus Hunnell, Mrs. Ralph Elm, and Mrs. Ray McClelland. Funeral services were held in Detroit Saturday afternoon and interment was in that city."
