Frank Bartlein, 65, a resident of the town of Menasha, died unexpectedly late Friday night or early Saturday morning at his home. He was found dead by members of the family. Mr. Bartlein was born April 20, 1865, in the town of Harrison and had spent his entire life in the vicinity. His survivors are his wife; a daughter, Mrs. H. J. Rosenow, of Menasha, and two sons, Leon and Lester, both of whom reside at the family home. Of four surviving sisters, one, Mrs. Fred Eckrich, is a resident of Menasha. Funeral arrangements have not been made, but members of the family have asked that flowers be omitted.

Frank M. Scherer, Jr., age 89, a resident of Royal Oak, died December 22, 2010 at Cambridge North Healthcare Center in Clawson. He was born January 20, 1921 in Detroit. Mr. Scherer lived in Royal Oak and south Oakland County most of his life. He served in the U.S. Army Air Force during World War II as an Armament Officer for the P-47 Squadron. He was a graduate of the General Motors Institute, and retired in 1982 from Chevrolet Engineering in Warren after 25 years of service. He was a member of the National Shrine of the Little Flower Usher's Club and the GM Camping Club. He was an avid reader, loved gardening and spending time with his family. The visitation will be Monday 4-9 p.m. and Tuesday 3-9 p.m. with a scripture service Tuesday 7 p.m. at the Wm. Sullivan & Son Funeral Home, 705 W Eleven Mile Road (4 blocks E. of Woodward), Royal Oak. Mr. Scherer will lie in state Wednesday 9:30 a.m. until the time of Mass 10 a.m. at the National Shrine of the Little Flower in Royal Oak. The burial will take place at Oakview Cemetery in Royal Oak.

GLADSTONE PIONEER DIES IN THE NIGHT
Charles Zimmel Found Dead by His Wife Yesterday Morning
Charles Zimmel, a pioneer resident of Gladstone, was found dead at his home in that city at eleven o'clock yesterday morning. Mr. Zimmel retired Thursday evening apparently in his usual health. When he failed to arise at the usual hour next morning Mrs. Zimmel endeavored to arouse him and found him dead. The deceased was eighty-three years of age and had lived in Gladstone since 1888. His wife and several sons and daughters survive.

Funeral was Held in Shawano Saturday P. M. in Charge of Odd Fellows The sad news was recieved here on Wednesday morning of last week of the death of Collin Mayville, who had been in one of the hospitals at Oshkosh for some weeks. The deceased had been failing since he entered the hospital. Undertaker Karth went to that city after the remains, which were brought here for burial. Collin Arthur Mayville was born in Sumico, Wis. Oct. 25th, 1869. His mother died when he was two years of age. The family then moved to Unity where they lived until he was seventeen years of age. During his early years, he lived at Fond du Lac, De Pere, and Shiocton. In 1891 he was married to Claire [Clorie] Greeley, of Shiocton, to whom were born three children, Howard Ray, of Madison; Velma Belle, who died four years ago; and Reynolds Sylvester, also of Madison. In 1903 the family moved to Shawano where they made their home since. Mr.Mayville has been employed by the Shawano Lumber Co. for twenty-two years. He was a very faithful employee, ever working for the interests of the company, doing his work well. He was a pleasant man and had a great many friends. He was a member of the Shawano Odd Fellows Lodge and took very much interest in that order, and had been elected to most of the offices of the order. Besides the immediate family he leaves to mourn his passing, one sister, Mrs.Beauliau of Long Lake, Wis.; two half sisters, Mrs.Alfred Nachtwey of this city, and Mrs. Dean Colby of Colby; and three half brothers, George, of Medford, Saskachewan, Can; Ed. of this city; and Dewey, of Milwaukee. The funeral was held on Saturday afternoon and was in charge of the Odd Fellows of this city. A large number were present to pay their respect to the departed. The floral offerings were many and beautiful. Among those from out of the city who attended the funeral were: Dewey Mayville, Milwaukee; Mr. and Mrs. Henry Arnett and family of Menasha; Mr. and Mrs. H. C. Gayle L. Katarincic, age 72, devoted wife, mother, and Christian went home to be with her Lord and Savior January 8th, 2005. Gayle lived at Montana Ave., Gladstone, Michigan, but had been residing at the Christian Park Health Care Center in Escanaba for the past month.
Gayle DuRoy was born March 20th, 1932 to Charles and Janie (Belanger) DuRoy. Gayle has endured many medical hardships in the last months of her life but through her struggles, her faith never faltered and she kept her sense of humor even during her last days.
She was a 1950 graduate of the Gladstone High School. Gayle married John E. Katarincic January 19, 1952 in Lakewood, Ohio. John was an engineer on the ore boats which kept him away from home for months at a time and when they had children, Gayle was a stay-at-home mom. She did a fantastic job of raising their children. After John retired, she became a Fuller Brush Representative until failing eyesight made continuing in that capacity too difficult for her. In recent times, Gayle could be seen working at her daughter and son-in-law's "Dollar Value Store" in Gladstone where she loved visiting with customers.
Gayle Katarincic was a member of the Bethel Evangelical Church in Gladstone and when it disbanded, she later became a member of the New Horizons Ministry where she had recently sat on the "Board of Administration". She also was a member of the "Ladies Monday Night Bible Study".
Gayle was an excellent cook specializing in homemade soups and desserts. At Christmas time, she always made a walnut swirl Croatian cake-bread called "povitica". In addition, she liked to crochet, watch games shows on television, and collect penguins. She also made all of her daughter's prom dresses.
Gayle loved her family very much and was loved in return. Her greatest joy was her grandchildren. Family and friends remember her willingness to help anyone in anyway that she could.

Georgia M Lewellen, age 92 of Encampment, WY died December 30, 2013 at Regional Hospital in Spearfish, SD.
Georgia M. Wray was born August 26, 1921 in West Plains, Mo. She was the daughter of Charles Oliver and Alta Ann (Raney) Wray. Georgia grew up on a farm near West Plains, Missouri. She attended school at Renfrow Country School, near West Plains.
It was during a Sunday School Social that she met her future husband, William Joseph Verplancke. He was visiting relatives in MO and went with them to the ice cream social. They wrote to each other for six months before "Butch" returned to marry her on June 30, 1936. Georgia and Butch spent the next 47 years together. To this union there were born two children, Rita Wray and Roger William. Georgia and Butch worked in the timber industry for R. R Crow and Co. They also owned and operated the Side Saddle Inn in Encampment, WY. for several years. They enjoyed many fishing, hunting, camping trips with their family and enjoyed a good hot game of Bridge with friends. Butch died on January 7, 1984.
On November 2, 1991 Georgia was united in marriage to Bafford E. Lewellen,( Rear Admiral, Ret.) They enjoyed nine years of marriage before "Lew" died in June of 2000. They traveled to Belgium, France, Germany, England and even fished in New Zealand. Summers were spent in Encampment, WY and winters in Oceanside, CA.
Georgia knew what it was like to go without and she never forgot to help those in need. Her kind and compassionate nature will be remembered by many. She was a Christian woman with a strong faith in God. Fishing, hunting, camping and gardening as well as a hot Bridge game were a few of her favorite things. Her infectious laugh will be sadly missed. She was a great cook and gracious hostess. Her specialty was pie baking and what a treat it was to enjoy her fresh rhubarb raspberry pie. She worked for several years in Saratoga, WY for Ralph Crow & Sons, Memorial Hospital of Carbon Hospital and for the Encampment Schools.
Georgia is survived by her daughter Rita (Dennis) Craiger of Spearfish, Two grandchildren, Loree (Jason) Schlichtemeier of Sturgis, Steve Anderson of Spearfish, five great grandchildren, Kaleb and Connor Anderson of Spearfish, Kassi and Lauren Anderson of Rawlins and Kathryn Anderson of Okinawa.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husbands, William Joseph Verplancke, Bafford E Lewellen, her son Roger Verplancke, son in law Lyle Anderson, and her sisters Hazel Van Hook and Blanche Bess.

Gilbert C. Huelsbeck, 85, of Oshkosh died on Monday, May 25, 2009. He was born in Menasha on October 28, 1923 the son of Arthur and Ida Porsche Huelsbeck. He married Arlene Shebilske on May 24, 1951 in Appleton.
Gilbert was a member of Most Blessed Sacrament (St Mary's site), he was a World War II Army Veteran and worked at Meadowview Dairy in Menasha, then as a Bordon distributor in Oshkosh for ten years. Then he worked at Sommerfeld Welding until his retirement. Gilbert enjoyed dancing, fishing, bowling and roller skating ice skating, and playing cards.
Survivors include his wife of 57 years, Arlene; daughters, Debra (Michael) Andre, Doris (Scott) Werdin; six grandchildren, David Hoffmann, Amy and Andrea Werdin, Scott Rosenberg, and Tyler Andre; three brothers, Richard (Phylis) Huelsbeck, Leo (Issy) Huelsbeck and John (Ruth) Huelsbeck; two sisters, Mary (John) Dietsler, Kathryn Huelsbeck; sisters-in-law, Edna Huelsbeck, Eileen Shebilske, Helen Ornstein, two brothers-in-law, James Shebilske, Clifford Shebilske and many nieces and nephews. Gilbert was preceded in death by a daughter, Diane Hoffmann, a grand son, Jeremy Rosenberg, a brother, Raymond Huelsbeck, and a sister-in-law, Jean Shebilske.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Friday, May 29, 2009 at the Most Blessed Sacrament at 11 a.m. with Fr. James Jugenheimer officiating. Family and friends may call at the church from 9 a.m. until the Mass. Interment will be at Lake View Memorial Park. Memorials to the American Cancer Society in Gilbert's name would be appreciated.

GLADSTONE '97 Lawrence T. Lavelle of Gladstone died at age 83 on Dec. 28, 2016. He was born in Gladstone on Dec. 29, 1932, to the late Lawrence J. and Stella (Cavill) Lavelle. He graduated from All Saints Catholic Grade School where he served as an Alter Boy. He graduated from Gladstone High School in 1951.
Larry (also known as "Pierre" to many of his friends and relatives) served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War. He married the former Irene Roberts on Sept. 15, 1956. They remained married for nearly 59 years, until Irene's death in 2015.
Larry was employed by the Soo Line Railroad until his retirement. He was a member of the Gladstone American Legion Post #71 and a member of All Saints Catholic Church in Gladstone.
Larry enjoyed spending time at his camp. He also enjoyed hunting, metal detecting, and playing cards. Most of all, he loved spending time with his family. Larry had a great sense of humor and a knack for storytelling. He was also known as someone who would offer meaningful advice and guidance to those in need, and in this way, he helped many people over the years.
Survivors include sons Patrick (Tracey) Lavelle and Daniel (Jana) Lavelle, son-in-law Terry Harris, grandchildren Shannon (Adam) Cleven, Chelsea (Phil) Adams, Rachel Lavelle, Joshua Lavelle and Gabriel Lavelle, great-grandchildren Jacob, Ryan and Abby Cleven and Bowie Adams all of Green Bay.
Also surviving is a sister, Kathleen (James) LaCosse of Cornell, and sisters-in-law Kathleen (James) Grenfell of Gladstone and Mary Ann (David) Lavelle of Port Huron, Mich., along with numerous nieces and nephews.
Larry was preceded in death by his wife Irene Lavelle, daughter Mary Beth Harris, parents Lawrence J. and Stella Lavelle, step-mother Ellen Lavelle, brothers James and David Lavelle, sister Patricia Moberg, brothers-in-law Bill (Betty) and Bob (Barb) Roberts, and great-grandson Joseph Cleven.
Family will receive friends on Tuesday, from 10 a.m. to 12:15 p.m., at the Skradski Funeral Home in Gladstone. Military rites will follow visiting hours, at 12:15 p.m. on Tuesday, at the Skradski Funeral Home in Gladstone, with the Gladstone American Legion August Mattson Post #71 presiding. GLADSTONE - Irene R. Lavelle, 79, of Gladstone, passed away early Friday morning, June 5, 2015, at Bellin Health in Green Bay, Wis.
The former Irene Roberts was born in Gladstone on Aug. 29, 1935, the daughter of Raymond and Ellen (Brodene) Roberts. Her earlier years were spent in Rapid River, Nahma, and Chatham. Her family moved back to Gladstone in 1951. Irene graduated from Gladstone High School in 1954. In 1956, she married Lawrence Lavelle at All Saints Church in Gladstone where she also taught C.C.D. for 14 years.
Irene was employed by the Gladstone Area Schools for 22 years. She was a member of MARSP, Friends of the Library and a member of All Saints Church in Gladstone. Irene enjoyed spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Additionally, she enjoyed reading, going to movies, cooking, baking and time spent with friends.
Survivors include: Irene?s loving husband, Larry; sons, Patrick (Tracey), Dan (Jana); son-in-law, Terry Harris, all of Green Bay; sister, Kathleen (Jim) Grenfell of Gladstone; grandchildren, Shannon (Adam) Cleven, Chelsea (Phil) Adams, Rachel, Josh and Gabe; great-grandchildren, Jacob, Ryan, Abby, and Bowie; sisters-in-law, Kathleen (Jim) LaCosse of Cornell and Mary Ann Lavelle of Port Huron.

Glenn, the son of Glenn R. Urquhart and Jean B. Urquhart of Southfield MI enlisted in the US Marine Corps on October 12, 1967 in Detroit MI. He arrived in Vietnam on April 10 1968, and was assigned to Company D, 1st Battalion, 7th Marines, 1st MARDIV (Rein) FMF.
During Operation LINN RIVER near the Chau Son village complex in Dien Ban District while clearing out the NVA from fortified bunkers there was a secondary explosion which resulted in a Marine being wounded. Gloria V. Barkley, a Vancouver resident since 1949, died at her home Sunday, Feb. 19, 1995, of heart problems and emphysema. She was 71.
A memorial service will begin at 2 p.m. Thursday at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, 9901 S.E. Caruthers, Portland. Burial will be in Evergreen Memorial Gardens Cemetery in Vancouver.
Mrs. Barkley, a homemaker, was born Jan. 11, 1924, in Milwaukee, Wis.
Her husband, James, died in 1978.
Survivors include three daughters, Denise A. Eck of Allentown, Pa., Stephanie L. Marias of Portland and Kammy J. GOLDEN YEARS WEDDING Cutting their wadding caka re Mr. and Mrs. Parcy A. Bengry, two of Lansing's senior citizens who were married Thursday at ceremony attended by 250 of their senior citizens friends in the Olds union hall, 426 Clare st. Mrs. Bengry, the former Mrs. Leona Borgstrom, is 69, the groom 70. They met at the senior citizens Cedar Street "drop-in" center as participants in the year-around program sponsored by the recreation department and the Greater Lansing Labor council. HISTORICAL CONTEXT:
Paul Wilson grew up in Frederick, Maryland, where he still paints today. He studied at the Schuler School of Art in Baltimore, Maryland and monitored for Daniel Greene at his summer workshop in North Salem, New York. In addition to his portraits and still lifes, Paul has recently been painting plein air landscapes in both Maryland and on his frequent trips to Colorado.

Edgar Peep Takes Bride DE PERE At a candlelight service in the De Pere Congregational church at 7:30 Saturday evening, Mrs. Susan Mae Johnson, 648 Oak street, West De Pere, became the bride of Edgar Peep, Black Creek. The Rev. Edwin T. Phillips, pastor, presided at the double ring ceremony. The bride was attired in a lace blue gabardine, accented by silver slippers and rhinestone accessories. A corsage of pink roses and carnations completed the ensemble. Attendants were Mr. and Mrs. Leland Peep, Kimberly, son and daughter-in-law of the groom, Mrs. Dorothy Roper, Green Bay, niece of the groom, and Al Draeger, Oshkosh. Bridal aides appeared in identical pink silk dresses. During the service Mrs. Peter Vogels sang "Because" and "Through the Years" accompanied by Mrs. Charles Bidwell. Guests were ushered to their places by Robert Verhagen, grandson of the bride, and Calvin Haskins, a nephew. A reception followed In the church parlors. After Dec. 1, the couple will be at home in Black Creek, where Mr. Peep is employed at the nearby Center Valley Co-op. Mrs. Peep active in local women's organizations, was affiliated with the local Fox River Kebekah lodge, De Pere Royal Neighbors, Harrison Women's Relief corps, and the Nicolet Homemaker's club. Guests from Shawano, Shiocton, Oshkosh, Waukesha and Milwaukee were here for the wedding.

Graveside services were held this morning in Allouez Cemetery for Kevin Lee Cavil, infant son of Mr. and Mrs. Roland Cavil of Dickinson Road, De Pere.
He is survived by his parents; three sisters, Ellen; Susan; and Kathy, all at home; maternal grandparents, Mrs. and Mrs. Everett Harteau, Green Bay; paternal grandfather, Randall Cavil, De Pere.
Cotter Funeral Home, De Peter, was in charge of funeral arrangements.
