David Lavelle
July 2, 1928 to March 28, 2012
David Lavelle
David Hugh Lavelle, 83, of Port Huron, passed away Wednesday, March 28, 2012 after a long illness.
He was born July 2, 1928 in Gladstone, Michigan to the late Lawrence and Stella Lavelle. He married Mary Ann Cooper on December 12, 1959 in Boise, Idaho.
David graduated from Gladstone High School in May 1946. After graduation, he served three years in the U.S. Air Force in San Antonio, Texas and Anchorage, Alaska. After he was discharged from the Air Force, he attended Michigan Technological University and graduated in 1956 with degrees in Mechanical and Civil Engineering. He worked for Morrison-Knudsen Company in Boise for 18years and then worked for Bechtel Corporation in San Francisco for 25 years. While employed with Morrison-Knudson and Bechtel, he worked on several construction projects in the U.S. and also in Asia and England.
After retiring, David bought 40 acres of land near Indian River, Michigan for a hunting camp where he could pursue his love of fishing and hunting. He especially enjoyed the hunting trips he took with his son to Idaho, Arizona and Nova Scotia, and the rafting trip through the Grand Canyon that he took with his daughter.
David was a hard worker, but also enjoyed his hobbies. In addition to the hunting, fishing and travelling, he enjoyed camping, playing golf, and helping family in any way that he could. David and Mary Ann were members of St. Stephen's Catholic Church in Port Huron.
He is survived by his wife of 52 years, Mary Ann of Port Huron Township; children, David Mark (Kim) Lavelle of North Street and Cynthia (Dan) Seib of Woodland Park, Colorado; three grandchildren, Rebecca and Jakob Seib and Brooke Lavelle; brother, Larry (Irene) Lavelle of Gladstone; sister, Kathy (Jim) Lacosse of Cornell; and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his sister, Patricia Moberg, and brother, James Lavelle.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, April 2, 2012 in Skradski Funeral Home, 706 Wisconsin Avenue, Gladstone, Michigan with visitation beginning at 10:30 a.m.
Burial will be in Fernwood Cemetery, Escanaba Township, Michigan.
Memorials may be made to the Michigan Parkinson's Foundation. | Lavelle, David Hugh (I2392)

David,
Our book of interments from that period show the death of Edward Belanger from Canada died on October 26, 1906, and was buried at Holy Cross on October 29, 1906. Cause of death was old age, but the age is somewhat distorted ? it looks like 84 years old. Unfortunately, our map of the cemetery does not contain the names of everyone buried there because either there were no stones or they are illegible. Back then, the families were buried more or less in the same area unlike today where we sell the plots row-by-row.
I have a listing for Odile (Brunette) Belanger who was born in Canada and died August 30, 1907 in Gladstone and was buried at Holy Cross on September 1, 1907. She died of paralysis. Again, I have double-checked our cemetery map and cannot find the location of the burial.
I realize I am just confirming information you already have, so I am sorry I could not be more helpful.

Dear Mr. Walters,
I looked up information on Edward Belanger. According to the grave marker, he was born in 1852 as you have noted. In our cemetery records his date of death was August 3, 1926. I do not have a date of burial; nor do I have an obituary on file.
His burial site is: Block 15; Lot 75; Grave #2. I have attached a cemetery map with a sticky note on Block 15 and on the gravesite.
Grave #1 is listed as "Frank"; Grave 3 as "Rosio Baby", and Grave 4 as Mrs. Arthur (Mary) Minneau (alternately spelled Mineau).
Sorry I can't be more helpful.
